A BUSINESS from Temburong that prepares quality salted eggs emerged as a big winner during the LiveWIRE Business Awards 2017-2018 presentation ceremony recently.

Hazeeyah Agro Farm won the award for the business startups category (minimum six months to three years in business) and was also named the recipient of the ‘Most Outstanding Award’ as part of the competition’s Exemplary Awards.

The Exemplary Awards give formal recognition to those who have attained a high degree of achievement in areas of technical skill and know-how as well as management style in their determination to achieve their goals.

Those under the Exemplary Awards are acknowledged as having displayed remarkable progress and development.

The ‘Most Outstanding Award’ is awarded to the most unique, well-presented, realistic, inspiring, original and practical business idea during the competition. For this latest iteration of the LiveWIRE, that business idea was that of Nur Haziyah binti Abdul Rahman.

Her business, the Hazeeyah Agro Farm, is a duck farm that she operates at the back of the house in Kampong Batang Duri, Temburong.

Nur Haziyah shared with the Weekend Bulletin, that she has carried out duck farming for three years, after having started small.

She said that they have developed their own secret method of making the salted eggs healthier and also taste better.

Continuing on what makes her business stand out, she said, “I apply uniqueness in my product,” noting that this also includes new ideas for packaging.

On how she got the idea to set up the farm, Nur Haziyah said that salted eggs were difficult to get at one point, and from this she decided to set up her own business.

She started the business with 12 ducks, and shared that she had no prior knowledge for duck farming, and learnt most of it from the Internet and by reading books.

She added that she also learnt through trial and error.

On how it felt to win the two awards, she said that it was unexpected.

“I’m quite surprised actually. I came just for the closing ceremony, I didn’t know I would be winning anything, so this is a very big surprise for me.”

She added that it “feels great” to be named the winner of the Most Outstanding Award.

She is looking forward to expanding further, which she said will provide more jobs for people who live near the area.

She added that she is thinking of opening up some new land in Temburong for a new farm.

“I will definitely grow my business,” she affirmed.
