THE Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong witnessed the signing ceremony between two Joint Venture partners, Kreuz Subsea (B) Sdn Bhd and SPHI Marine Sdn Bhd and the launching of the vessel, Kreuz Challenger at Muara Port, Cruise Ship Centre in Muara yesterday.
Signing on behalf of Kreuz Subsea (B) was Director of Kreuz Subsea (B) Dato Paduka Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, and CEO of Kreuz Subsea Singapore AJ Jain. Managing Director Haji Ibrahim Kalili bin Pehin Dato Haji Abdul Rahman and Operations Director Haji Mohd Hairul Azmi bin Haji Sulaiman signed on behalf of SPHI Marine.
The minister in his speech said the joint venture marked an important opportunity for Brunei Darussalam’s drive toward developing skilled local professionals to perpetuate the usage of specialized equipment.
The minister also noted that 52 Bruneians have been trained by Kreuz Subsea (B) and are currently engaged within the vessel, and hoped they will further their career progression in the industry through career development programmes, support and personal discipline and commitment.
He said that one important aspect of any industry is safety and health, and added that stop work orders have been issued by the Department of Labour for critical incidents of safety and health oversights, and breaches that endanger the life and well-being of people. He was also pleased to note that a majority of these incidents were duly rectified.
The minister said in this regard, the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will continue its efforts in stringent monitoring and investigation of any safety and health related incidents.
The minister added, “We must continue to instil a culture of non-tolerance towards complacency, at the expense of the well-being of workers, not only in the oil and gas industry but in other sectors.”
The minister also encouraged the local youths to pursue the experience necessary to take up positions of higher responsibility at senior and assistant managerial, supervisory, and directorial roles. Private sector joint ventures and other intra-government initiatives should bolster motivation among the youths to strive for opportunities for growth.
The minister also toured the vessel.
