SUNGAI Liang Primary School (SRSL) recently celebrated Autism Awareness Day with several activities for the staff and students at the school’s multi-purpose hall.
The Headmaster of SRSL, Abdullah Sani bin Haji Imran, in his welcoming speech said that the celebration was part of the school’s initiative to create more awareness among students about people living with autism.
He also cited numerous teaching methods, such as the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and visual schedules, which have been provided for the benefit of students with autism, under the Ministry of Education’s Inclusive Education Programme.
Afterwards, there was a presentation of prizes, sponsored by Haniah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, to the students of the school’s Special Education Needs Assistance (SENA) Programme.
Prizes were also awarded to students who had participated in a colouring contest and collage project for the occasion.
The event continued with activities such as a human ribbon formed by the students, a photobooth area and a mini food fair set up by the teachers.
