LIVERPOOL Football Club’s (LFC) legend John Barnes yesterday conveyed his appreciation to the continued support of Brunei Liverpool Fans and hoped that they will keep on supporting LFC for many more years to come.
During an interview on the sidelines of the Football Clinic with LFC Legend John Barnes hosted by Standard Chartered Bank and Jerudong International School, the former footballer said, “Keep supporting Liverpool and thanks you for the support.”
John Barnes pointed out that one of the main reasons for Liverpool’s better than expected season this year is the fans. He said, “The fans stick with the team, the fans stick with Jürgen Klopp. They stick with the players regardless of the criticism. Once the fans back the players, they show their true worth.”
Touching on LFC’s performance this year, the legend said, “It has been a great performance for LFC in the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this year. Particularly, Liverpool are fighting to be in the top three spots in the Premier League and getting into the semi-final of the Champions League and possibly the final.”
He noted that Liverpool had improved its consistency in playing against smaller teams since Christmas and this is the reason that Liverpool are still in the top of the league. Hopefully, Liverpool FC will improve on its consistency and have a real push in the Premier League next season.
When asked about the chances of taking second spot in the league, John Barnes said, “Second spot is beyond us now after the draw with West Bromwich. If we finished third and win the Champions League, it will be a great season. This year has been a better than expected season.”
On the first leg 5-2 win against Roma in the UEFA Champions League, John Barnes said “It was a fantastic game with great result. I am happy that we have three goals lead against Roma heading into the second leg. However we have to be vigilant and cannot be complacent so what happened to Barcelona will not happen to us.”
