457 receive state honorary medals

BY COMMAND of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, state honorary medals were conferred on 457 recipients yesterday to mark the monarch’s 71st birthday last year.

During an investiture ceremony held at the Istana Nurul Iman, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, as the representative of His Majesty, conferred the medals on the recipients comprising civil servants and uniformed personnel, in recognition of their dedication and loyalty in rendering services to the government.

Also in attendance at the ceremony held at the Balai Singgahsana Indera Kenchana was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

Twenty-five individuals comprising civil servants working at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Ministry of Defence (MinDef), Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), Ministry of Communications (MinCom) and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) received the Meritorious Service Medal (PJK).

Another 338 individuals from the PMO, MinDef, Ministry of Finance (MoF), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Ministry of Development, MPRT and MinCom were conferred with the Excellent Service Medal (PIKB).

Meanwhile, 83 Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel were conferred with the Star of Supreme Gallantry Medal (PP), and six other personnel were conferred with the Distinguished Warrior Star Medal (AP).

The ceremony yesterday was the first of the Investiture Ceremony and the second leg on May 7 will see more recipients being conferred with different honorary state medals.

The ceremony which was carried out in royal tradition, began when His Royal Highness was informed by the Grand Chamberlain Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar that it was ready to start the proceedings.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheterias, Cabinet Ministers, members of the Legislative Council, deputy ministers, members of Diplomatic Corps, permanent secretaries and senior government officials were present during the ceremony.

To bless the ceremony, a Doa Selamat was recited by YB Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
