THE moving of the Gadong night market to its new roofed facility will enhance the business climate for everyone, offering more space and comfort to both vendors and visitors alike, the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department said in a statement yesterday.
As part of the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department to provide space and comfort for vendors and visitors, business activities of the Gadong night market have been moved to a new location at the Bangunan Gerai Malam Pasar Gadong Beratap, with a part of it moved to the new location’s parking lot, beginning Wednesday, June 1, with business hours from 4pm to 11pm, the statement added.
As many as 100 spaces have been provided, measuring 10’x18’, in the new roofed location while an additional 16 camps for 32 spaces have also been set up.
Altogether, 36 spaces are for vegetables and fruits, 66 spaces for takeaway food and drink, 16 spaces for barbecue/smoked food, and 14 spaces for clothing and accessories.
“The provision of better and more comfortable facilities and spaces will enhance the business climate to one that is friendlier for everyone,” the statement added.

In line with this, a number of facilities have been provided, which include prayer rooms and public toilets, sinks for cleaning, water pipes, electrical sockets, a storage house for rubbish from the vendors, and routine works of maintenance and hygiene control by an appointed company.
The Municipal Department also shared that the building will also be used for weekend seller activities on Friday and Sunday from 6am to 12 noon.
“It is the hope of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department that the vendors will take good care of all the facilities provided at the new building and together maintain the cleanliness of the area from time to time.
“The public is welcome to visit the Gadong night market at the new site,” the statement said.
The Gadong Night Market is a favourite place of Bruneians to look for a wide variety of affordable hawker food, fruits, vegetables, local pastries and clothing.
Its new facility is located near the bridge linking Simpang 137 and Simpang 37, offering a shopping spot on the banks of the Gadong River.
