THE new Vehicle Entry/Exit System (VES) will expedite application and approval process for vehicles exiting or entering the border checkpoints at control posts which include QR scanning to shorten queuing time.

This was brought up during a public session by the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) at the Community Hall of Kampong Bukit Beruang in Tutong District yesterday.

Deputy Controller of Custom Mohammad Mu’innuddin Chin bin Abdur Rahman @ Mervin Chia led the session.

Among those present were Legislative Council members YB Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit and YB Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong; Tutong District Office officials; penghulus and village heads; and members of the public.

The session was the first of such talks for the public, especially traders, on the benefits and the procedure to register to use the system. Similar sessions will be held in other districts as well.

The VES is currently running in parallel with the old system of manual input for six months, after which it will replace the old system. The RCED also provided kiosks for the public to register for vehicle pass online through the RCED portal at www.bdnsw.gov.bn.

The QR code generated on the vehicle pass will be scanned during border crossing. The public are asked to register their vehicles earlier prior to travelling.

The vehicle pass can be printed or kept in a digital format or downloaded into mobile phones, tablets and others. The valid period for the vehicle pass is three months.

The next public session will be held for the Brunei-Muara District on May 8 from 9am-3pm at the Theatre Hall, Brunei-Muara District Office.

Members of the public attending the session will get to know more about the VES.

The RCED will also provide kiosks for them to register for vehicle pass directly. For this, members of the public are advised to bring along the vehicle registration book or vehicle bluecard.

The VES is being implemented on pilot mode within a six-month period. During the pilot mode, a normal lane will also be provided to enable the public to get accustomed with the new system to ensure the implementation of the new system will not affect their travelling.

For information on the VES, the public can visit the RCED office or its website at www.tradingacrossborders.gov.bn.

To get the user’s guide for registering vehicle pass, contact the service counter at 2382361 or email to info@customs.gov.bn.
