THE Finals of the National Al-Quran Memorisation and Understanding competition for 1439 Hijrah concluded yesterday, with a certificate presentation for the participants and competition judges at the Ministry of Finance (MoF), in Jalan Commonwealth Drive.
The guest of honour was Minister of Finance II Dato Seri Paduka Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.
Following a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, a welcoming speech was delivered by Acting Director of the MABIMS Centre for Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination and event co-chairman Pengiran Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit.
Pengiran Haji Amiruddin said the annual competition was aimed at nurturing the love for Al-Quran through the practice of memorisation and understanding, particularly among youths, students and civil employees.
He said 309 candidates registered this year for the competition, an increase from 299 in 2017.
The event continued with a recitation of selected chapters from Juzuk 30, by a Qari and four Qariahs in Category ‘A’.
A group of officers and staff from the Royal Customs and Excise Department, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) presented a Tausyeh performance.
Twenty-five contestants showcased their recitation and memorisation skills during the two-day competition finals: Abdul Hadi Muaiyyad bin Haji Azrol, Iman binti Muhammad Fahmi, Ezyan Adibah binti Haji Mohd Hanafi, Nur’aliyah Amani binti Muhammad Al-Ameen and Majdah Al-Zahraa binti Zawawi in Category ‘A’; Nur Syahirah Tul Musyirah binti Musa, Alya Najdah binti Dr Haji Norarfan, Najla’ Sabreena binti Haji Abdul Rajid, Nur Najihah binti Alias and Ayshah binti Mohamed Shalahudeen in Category ‘B’; Hajah Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh, Muhammad Azib bin Muhammad Azim, Awangku Md Daud bin Pengiran Matassan, Julazni bin Haji Zaini and Pengiran Haji Mohammad Norhasib bin Pengiran Haji Bongsu in Category ‘C’; Awangku Muhammad Abdul Majeed Ariffin bin Pengiran Haji Md Abdul Aziz, Salwa binti Haji Ibrahim, Najwa Iman Zahidah binti Haji Aspar, Nur Azzuhaira binti Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz, and Era Aniza binti Muhammad Zainuddin in Category ‘D’; and Muhammad Hasbul Wafi bin Haji Ahmad, Mohamed Shahmie bin Mohamed Shalahudeen, Mohammad Aqiel Hidayat bin Haji Zulfa Hidayat @ Mohammad, Nur Haziqah binti Haji Daud, and Abdul Aziz bin Noor Nasran in Category ‘E’.
This year, the Executive Committee of Major Islamic Events for 1439 Hijrah appointed the Royal Customs and Excise Department at the MoF to work together with the MoRA, in organising the competition.
The competition results will be announced during the National Level Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration for 1439 Hijrah, which will be hosted by the Islamic Syiar Development Division.
