HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined thousands of Brunei citizens and residents yesterday, in celebrating National Family Day 2018 at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in Bandar Seri Begawan.
His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Khaliilah Khalilatul Bolqiah; and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Naafi’ah Khairul Bulqiah.
His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman; Minister of Communications cum the Acting Minister of Home Affairs Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof; and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin upon arrival at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
Also present were Cabinet Ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries and guests.
The celebrations began with His Majesty leading cyclists from all four districts in a mass cycling event, on an 11.490km route which took them past the iconic Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and along Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Sekolah, Jalan Kumbang Pasang, Jalan Gadong, Jalan Perdana Menteri, Jalan Stadium, Jalan Pertahanan and Jalan Lapangan Terbang Lama Berakas, before heading back to the capital.
Later, His Majesty made a tour of the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ’Ali Saifuddien for a good view of several games and activities in progress, as well as a family-themed exhibition by various government and private agencies.
His Majesty also toured a sales bazaar especially set up for the festivities, featuring an array of food and drink, locally made perfumes, handicrafts and affordable clothing.
