THE national rugby team yesterday received a morale boost after receiving sponsored jerseys from Head Hunter sport, in an event yesterday at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
CEO and founder of Head Hunter sport Yusuf Flynn presented the jerseys to the team captain of the Brunei rugby team, Mohd Azahar bin Timbang.
Present to witness the occasion was the Acting President of Brunei Rugby Football Union, Dr Haji Kamaruddin bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib.
During a speech, the acting president exerted his confidence for the team, citing the team’s loss to at the hands of Guam in 2009.
“We have a history with Guam where we went to Guam nine years ago and were demolished. We learned a lot from the game and I am sure that rugby has improved in Brunei since then. So I hope that the Brunei team will give a very good fight to Guam and China,” Dr Haji Kamaruddin said.
“You will be playing against Guam in the opening match and we are looking forward to the game. We do not want history to repeat itself. Win or lose, we must give them a very good run for their money.”
He also congratulated the selected players and also thanked the sponsors for supporting the team.
As host of the tournament, he also hopes that Brunei team will show discipline and maintain sportsmanship.
