DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) held its Entrepreneurship Open Day at the Anggerek Desa Technology Park yesterday.
The event saw presentations and discussions conducted on various aspects of entrepreneurship and business, and also featured stalls run by more than 50 local vendors showcasing a range of products including food and beverage, health and beauty, sports, arts and crafts and apparel.
The morning session of the Entrepreneurship Open Day began with a presentation by Nur Azim bin Haji Matnor, Public Health Officer, Cosmetic Unit, Department of Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health.
Titled ‘Are Your Beauty Products and Supplements Safe?’, the presentation focussed on the regulation and control of cosmetic products, procedures of cosmetic product notification, responsibilities of a company placing cosmetic products, surveillance and enforcement as well as adulteration of cosmetic products.
The second speaker, Stephanie Ng, Assistant Registrar at the Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO), Energy and Industry Department. Her presentation discussed the topic, ‘Trademark your Brand and Design: How to Register and Why’.
The first part of the event was then rounded up after a sharing session with panellists from the Ministry of Health, BruIPO and invited micro, small and medium enterprises.
The afternoon saw more presentations delivered, including one titled ‘Make Yourself into a Brand and How to Market’ by Dean Green Marketing, as well as a Hijab tutorial for the modern woman by Butik Delima Enterprise and a self-care skin demonstration from As Salwaa Beauty.
A panel discussion then took place, dealing with the topic, ‘The Modern Womanpreneur: Balancing Business, Family and Career’.
Yesterday’s event also featured free coaching clinics by SUHBE Co, a company that offers entrepreneurship, mentoring and training services.
Javed Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of DARe, in an interview with the Weekend Bulletin, said, “The Entrepreneurship Open Day is something that is very much part of the standard programme that we have.
“This is actually the first in the financial year that we are holding, and the purpose is very much to ensure that the general public is able to come over and understand in terms of the entrepreneurial opportunity that is available in the country, what DARe can provide to them and what programmes we have.
“We also have talks in terms of certain rules and regulations, for example, the cosmetics industry, the food industry, and why it’s good for you to protect your intellectual property.
“So all of that is to make sure the public, businessmen and businesswomen understand in terms of what they need to do to protect their intellectual property and businesses.
“That’s very much the purpose, but we’re also taking advantage of the public coming over to basically make sure that their businesses – small and micro – can also benefit in terms of showcasing and selling their products.
“So it’s really more of creating the entrepreneurial scene within Brunei, showing to the public that if they are interested in setting up a business they can actually discuss with the relevant agencies, authorities and service providers,” he said.
