Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin presented the prizes.

Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak in her welcoming remarks highlighted that the folklore storytelling was held for the first time, with participants sharing ASEAN folklore stories.

She added that it was part of the DBP’s initiatives to prepare a platform for participants to show their potential and ability to think creatively, and expressing their imagination according to the context of their stories.

“This year, 118 participants aged eight to 12 from 39 schools (government and private) participated. Only eight moved on to the finals,” she said.

The competition also aimed to promote folklore stories of ASEAN member countries and instil the spirit of reading in children. The competition was organised by the Library Division of DBP in conjunction with the declaration of Bandar Seri Begawan as the ASEAN City of Culture 2017-2018.
