A NATIONWIDE operation titled Operasi Serentak was conducted by the enforcement sections under the district offices and municipal departments yesterday to ensure the cleanliness of the environment, public places as well as commercial areas in the country.
The operation was conducted to enforce the Minor Offence Act, Chapter 30, Section 12 (1).
The eight agencies involved in the operation were: Brunei-Muara District Office Enforcement Section, Belait District Office Enforcement Section, Tutong District Office Enforcement Section, Temburong District Office Enforcement Section, Law and Enforcement Section of Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, Seria and Kuala Belait Municipal Board, Law and Enforcement Section, and Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation of Tutong District branch.
During the operation, 15 individuals, comprising four locals, two Malaysians, one Indian, six Indonesians and two Bangladeshis, were issued with a compound fine of BND100 each for disposing cigarette butts and rubbish at public places.
The offenders are Bruneians Pengiran Sabli bin Pengiran Haji Amin, Julaihi bin Misir, Mohamad Safwan bin Haji Wardi and Asri anak Anyut; Malaysians Muhammad Fazlie bin Idrus and Rantai anak Jaffery Augustus; Indian Imtiyaz Ahmad; Indonesians Muhammad Fuad Arifudin, Anika Yudi Handoko, Witono bin Juwadi, Imam Safi’I, Abu Yazid Albastomi and Pujiono; and Bangladeshi Mohammad Motadbbir Hassain Late Fojor Ali.
Seven companies were also issued with a fine ranging from BND200-BND500 for storing or disposing rubbish at the government land area and public areas and dumping oil waste at public areas, commercial building areas and business premises. The individuals and companies were given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to do so will result in legal action.
Authorities reminded the public and business owners to ensure the cleanliness of the environment.
