A TIM Boxing Club outlined their plans to revive the boxing scene in the country which was made popular first in the 1960s up to the 1980s, starting with their recently-concluded boxing competition recently.
“The reason why we held the boxing tournament is to bring back the heydays of boxing in the country as the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s were known for iconic local boxers,” said Azahar bin Timbang, a committee member from the A Tim club.
The committee member referred to past boxing heroes such as Timbang bin Ahmad, Haji Yusuf Ismail and Pengiran Mumin who had represented the country at the international level.
“While we don’t know the exact reason of the decline, the support of the public can make a difference,” continued Azahar.
He also hoped for more boxing competitions to attract the public.
“The main purpose to organise the boxing tournament is to uncover hidden talent and generate interest in everyone,” said Azahar.
