GHANIM International Corporation Sdn Bhd is focussed on maximising business opportunities in Brunei Darussalam, developing the ecosystem, improving processing standards in the country as well as competing internationally.
This was highlighted by Dr Nur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Ghanim International Corporation, during a recent interview with the Sunday Bulletin.
Ghanim International Corporation is a state-owned enterprise in Brunei Darussalam which develops, markets and promotes high-quality Halal food products under the bruneihalalfoods brand with production bases and reliable suppliers across the world.
It offers opportunities for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to export their products overseas under its prestigious brand.
“We only launched our products on June 4, 2016 and since then we can see a progression and our sales, our platform, our customer base have been increasing,” shared the CEO. “We see these as positive results out of creating the platform, and in businesses it takes time.”
The CEO underlined the need to enhance the company’s ecosystem in Brunei. “That is very, very important… It’s not just doing business today, it’s creating business opportunities for the future,” he affirmed.
“Creating the opportunity for future, for long-term, is very, very important for Brunei,” he added.
“In the last couple of years, we have done our stock take, on what we have, on what we don’t have and what we should do for creating the platform for the future.
“At the same time, we are progressing in to the next level of creating products. Now, we have got a better understanding in terms of the customer needs and demands, and we are coming up with innovative products to meet the customer demand, both locally and internationally.
“Also, we are looking at how we are actually maximising the business opportunities for future in fixing the processing ability in Brunei, in fixing the ecosystem, in enhancing the standards of processing and in improving how we can compete with the international competitors in the industry.
“That’s what our challenge is. Over the last year, we have identified those challenges and issues. Now, we are looking at how we can fix them.
“In business, we need to look at how we are going to have the right products to meet the customer demand, how we are going to be able to be competitive in pricing, how we are going to make sure that our quality is right, how we are going to make sure that our standards of processing are right and how we are going to also create the team to be able to deliver these things is very, very important.
“So that’s what we are building on. At the same time, we are coming up with a number of new products in our portfolio, and these products will be ready-to-eat and ready-to-drink.”
Dr Nur Rahman noted that the company is increasing its supply base to major iconic brands in Brunei such as The Empire Hotel & Country Club and Royal Brunei Airlines.
He also shared that Ghanim has built a strong team that has a positive culture. Over the next year or so, “our plan is to utilise the team that we’ve built to build our productivity, processing ability, sourcing ability and support for the local SMEs”.
“We have already engaged a number of SMEs and we are the first one to take SME products to the bigger export market. We have got the platform already created. Now, our focus is to create more products through the SMEs, which we are already doing,” the CEO shared.
“Another thing that we are doing is how we can export more products from Brunei to overseas markets,” he continued, noting that this requires development of the ecosystem and the ability of the country to export different products to all markets.
“That’s one of our major objectives for the next 12 months – how we can cut all the export barriers.”
Concluding, Dr Nur Rahman highlighted, “Building capability, increasing capability and building the ecosystem and supply chain take time, but I believe we have come a fairly long way over the last couple of years and our aim is to work closely with the SMEs and the relevant government agencies and departments to make sure that we work together to enhance productivity and supply chain base.”
