Needy students get financial aid, basic necessities

THE sixth At-Tabarru’ Bil Khairaat programme was held yesterday at the hall of Pengiran Anak Puteri Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School, Kampong Serusop.

The programme, organised by the Technical and Vocational Unit, IRK Section, Department of Islamic Studies for the holy month of Ramadhan, was held to train students to help members of the community who are in need, the poor and destitute, as well as to honour students who recently converted to Islam.

Students of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) participated in the programme.

The session also sought to increase awareness among students on the importance of helping the community and volunteerism, to enhance the relationship between the students, as well as ingraining into them the spirit of devout religious practice during Ramadhan.

The guest of honour was Ustazah Hajah Norjarah binti Haji Luidin, the Acting Assistant Director of Islamic Studies (Professional) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The event began with a recitation of Ratib Al-Attas led by Cikgu Shaifulbahri bin Haji Ahmad, followed by a religious lecture delivered by Cikgu Haji Jafar bin Haji Yusof.

A Dikir Marhaban for the converts was led by Cikgu Narudin bin Lamit followed by the reading of the Doa Selamat by Cikgu Baharulnizam bin Haji Mohd Noor.

This year’s programme was held to hand over financial contributions and other basic necessities to Muallaf (Muslim converts) students and students who are in need of assistance.

The recipients were Nur Malika Mysha Jurida binti Entri, a student from IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus whose family embraced Islam on March 23, 2018, and Dayangku Rahalmatul Quamareeyah binti Pengiran Abdul Rahman, a student at the IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus in Kuala Belait who resides in a rental flat.

She is receiving welfare aid from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) and her father earns an average of BND360 monthly and needs to provide for seven dependents.

The donations were presented by Ustazah Hajah Norjarah.
