MARTIN Jarvis, a helicopter pilot from the UK Armed Forces Loan Service in Brunei Darussalam, along with Julie and Sharon, who run the Loan Service Thrift Shop, presented donations to the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei Edge Centre in Kampong Mata-Mata yesterday.
During their time at the centre, the trio was briefed by SMARTER Brunei President Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman on the centre’s aims, objectives and available facilities, and given a brief tour of its designated rooms and play areas.
In total, the visitors donated BND1,000, which was raised from a charity drive held through their Loan Service Thrift Shop. They also handed over indoor football equipment, to the delight of the children at the centre.
“We’ve carried out similar donations at primary and secondary schools and other institutions needing aid, and also made contributions to the general community,” noted Julie.
SMARTER Brunei prides itself as a support group for autism-related issues, providing training, educational services and resources on autism issues and also serves as a platform to generate awareness among the public on autism issues.
