A HANDOVER ceremony was held yesterday at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School in Kampong Katok, during which the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) received 238 textbooks in Arabic from the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Brunei Darussalam.
The textbooks are published by Oman’s Ministry of Education, and used for the teaching of Arabic at a primary level in the Gulf state.
Receiving the textbooks on behalf of MoRA was Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof.
Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Brunei Darussalam Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel bin Rashed bin Hashel Al-Maskari said, “The handing over of the Arabic-language curriculum textbooks further complements the efforts by the embassy, in coordination with the relevant authorities in Brunei to contribute to the dissemination of the Arabic language in Brunei. This will help efforts to enhance the effectiveness of Arabic language education in Brunei.
“These joint efforts have paid off well, with the establishment of an Oman Publications Corner at the library of the Universiti Islam Sultan Shari Ali, containing over 500 books by prominent Omani scholars, exposing readers to the Arabic language, along with the uniqueness of Omani culture and traditions.
“In addition, another Oman Publications Corner at the library of Universiti Brunei Darussalam was also established, featuring over 700 books and multimedia covering various aspects of Oman’s history, economy, culture, Islamic jurisprudence, arts, Arabic language and literature.
“In view of the attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to the teaching of Arabic language in Brunei Darussalam, the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman looks forward to fortifying its efforts towards strengthening the process of teaching Arabic language in Brunei Darussalam and student exchange programmes between the two brotherly countries,” added the Oman Ambassador.
Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz, meanwhile, expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Brunei Darussalam for the contribution.
“We are pleased to receive textbooks in Arabic from Oman, which should serve as a medium for the enrichment and further advancement of the learning and teaching of Arabic language in Brunei Darussalam,” he said.
This year, Brunei will be sending its fourth batch of students to Oman, under a scholarship scheme with the Sultan Qaboos College for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.
