PRIMATEL head coach Pong Bing Chau has been boosted with adequate and quality cover in future tournaments after roping in Don Mordeno in point guard to complement the position filled by RJ Lucida in their current roster.
Mordeno and Lucida played key roles in their side’s runners-up finish in the recently-concluded Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Challenge Trophy.
Pong only had Lucida in his ranks last year but now has the option to call upon Mordeno who holds similar strengths.
“I only have Lucida last year in the Sultan Cup. When he is down, I have no playmaker in court. So this year I have Mordeno,” said Pong in an interview.
Basketball enthusiasts will be entertained by the talents of the duo after the head coach confirmed that they will be retained for an upcoming tournament.
“They will not get tired and in case they play man to man, when I have one down, I still have another one. So I’m not scared for my game play,” the head coach added.
He shared that most of the players will likely be kept in the squad in an annual major competition in the near future.
“Maybe there will be one or two changes because we still have imports coming in.”
“I’ve been forming my team since four years ago. All of them stayed and played together which is why we have good teamwork.”
Primatel captain Kevin Tay Kai Seng and Ting Heng Lee converted a succession of three pointers during the course of the competition and Pong said that they are familiar with the court.
“They made a lot of three pointers considering that it is their home court. They play every day and almost every afternoon they are here playing the game so they’re familiar with the court.”
