THE Lions Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) recently hosted 13 delegates from the Lions Club of Bangkok Chomthong, Lions Club of Phuket Jungceylon and Phuket Pearl for a sister club reunion and friendship visit.
The Lions Club of Phuket Jungceylon was led by Charter President Lion Christiane Kitchakarn while the Lions Club of Phuket Pearl, by Treasurer Lion Vilaiwan Dienel and Lions Club of Bangkok Chomthong by District Governor Elected Lion Suchittra Sermboonpaisal.
The delegates visited several places of interest including the Open Palace of the Istana Nurul Iman and Iban longhouse – Teraja Longhouse in Belait District. A joint community project was also held with the Lions Club of Bandar Seri Begawan.
President of Lions Club of BSB Sunil Ramchandani said the joint community activity is part of the club’s main purpose of fostering a spirit of understanding among Lion sister clubs by promoting the principles of good citizenship through taking interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.
The delegates also visited the Billionth Barrel Monument in Seria; Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, the largest and one of the most significant mosques in Brunei; Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque; and The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
The Lions Club of BSB also hosted a fellowship night at a restaurant in Gadong.
During the visit to the Teraja Longhouse, the visiting Lion Clubs presented gifts to the elderly, single mothers and children of the longhouse. They also presented donations to support the longhouse in preserving the environment through responsible eco-tourism.
A tree planting activity was also held to commemorate the visit.
