THREE local men and two women were detained for suspected drug offences during a recent raid by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at a semi-detached house in STKRJ Kampong Rimba.
According to an NCB press statement, two of the male suspects are aged 47 years, while the other is 38 years old. The two female suspects are aged 31 and 61 years, respectively.
During the raid, NCB personnel discovered about 52.56 grammes of crystal believed to be Methylamphetamine, four tablets of suspected Erimin 5 and utensils used for the consumption of drugs.
The five suspects are being investigated under Section 5A of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), Chapter 27, over the possession of controlled drugs for the purpose of trafficking. The offence carries a penalty of 20 to 30 years in prison and 15 strokes of the cane.
They are also being investigated under Section 6(a) of the MDA, Chapter 27, for the possession of controlled drugs, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years, or a fine of BND20,000 or both; Section 6(b) of the MDA, Chapter 27, for the consumption of controlled drugs, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of BND20,000, or both; and Section 7 of the MDA, Chapter 27, over the possession of utensils for drug consumption, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to three years, or a fine of BND10,000, or both.
The 61-year-old female suspect will also be investigated under Section 9 of the MDA, Chapter 27, for allowing drug-related offences to take place on her premises.
The offence carries a penalty of two to 10 years in prison, or a fine of at least BND4,000 to BND40,000.
