THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) held the first meeting for the High Committee of the 13th National Youth Day Celebration at the Attaqwa Meeting Room at the MCYS building.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin in his capacity as the chairman of the High Committee.
Also present during the meeting were the Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry cum Deputy Chairman Dato Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw; as well as members of the High Committee comprising Legislative Council members; Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister’s Office, the MCYS, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; heads of departments; and the President of the Brunei Youth Council as well as the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam.
In his welcoming speech, the minister pressed on the importance of members of the High Committee in giving equal support and cooperation through the Whole of Government Approach method in making the organisation and implementation of the upcoming National Youth Day Celebration 2018 more effective.
The meeting also discussed reports on the latest preparation and development from the working committees of the National Youth Day Celebration 2018.
The event falls on August 1 every year where youths of the country will gather with a meaningful aim and the launch of the Youth Day celebration by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is a recognition and appreciation of the youth movement in the Sultanate.
In its efforts to develop youths in the country, the Government of His Majesty actively pays full attention through the continuous preparation of capacity development programmes, facilities, infrastructure as well as physical and fiscal assistance.
Moreover, the National Youth Day is also a platform for the youth to hold a special meeting to appreciate their contribution in youth development.
The National Youth Day Celebration 2018 High Committee agreed on the concept of the celebration focussing on leadership and entrepreneurship.
Other activities discussed also include the awarding of the National Youth Day Awards, performance formats including pledges, videos and youth performance, youth gatherings and side activities such as a Doa Kesyukuran Ceremony.
Members of the committee were urged to focus on entrepreneurship and leadership, and include the involvement from different sectors of the government and non-governmental organisations.
