FORTY Bahasa Melayu and Foreign Language Malay students from the Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday made a study visit to Radio Television Brunei (RTB), to get more insights into the world of electronic media in Brunei.

Joining the young delegation during the educational visit were His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, and Pengiran Muhammad Hasbul Qahhar bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Suhaimi, the grandson of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam.

The trip was organised by the Head of Asian Languages at JIS Melham Adam, with the support of four other faculty members.

“We hope that our students who are learning Bahasa Melayu – whether as a mother tongue language or as a foreigner – will enjoy this opportunity and listen in to the many excellent programmes available in Bahasa Melayu,” said Melham.

The arrival of the Year 6 students was welcomed by the Director of RTB Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu, who delivered a short briefing on RTB’s role in broadcasting educational programmes, news and entertainment for local, regional and international audiences.

The students were then taken on a tour of the radio stations for Harmoni FM, Pilihan FM, Pelangi FM, Nasional FM and Nur Islam, where His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel and his classmates were entertained by a Mukun performance in one of the studios.

After the tour of the radio stations, they were taken to the set of Rampai Pagi, where they were invited to talk about school life at JIS.

After the live telecast, the students were given the opportunity to visit the news and editing suites to see how the news programmes are televised and learn about the behind-the-scenes process.

A Bahasa Melayu teacher at JIS Hajah Hasnah binti Haji Jumat said that the visit was aimed at exposing the students to the broadcasting process at RTB.

The visit ended with an RTB presentation for the Year 6 students, followed by a group photo session.
