THE special screening at the Empire Cinema of the locally-produced film Hari Minggu Yang Ke-Empat for 150 Bahasa Melayu and Foreign Language Malay students from Years 9, 10 and 12 of Jerudong International School (JIS) yesterday received accolades and praises from the young cinemagoers.
The film directed and produced by award-winning director Siti Kamaluddin that has hit local cinemas in the country was keenly watched by the JIS students due to its local flavour and content, and the life that depicted a village lifestyle which many locals can relate to.
Siti Kamaluddin said she considered the screening of the film to the JIS students as of great importance because it portrayed the life and the spoken language utilised in a ‘Kampong Perpindahan’ setting.
The film will also enable foreign students at JIS to understand better the lifestyle common to Bruneians, and which some of the local students can relate to as well.
The film illustrated the importance of family values and the festive atmosphere of Hari Raya which the JIS audience appreciated very much, she added.
The JIS students were led by the Head of Asian Languages at JIS Melhan Adam, who also held a dialogue session with Siti Kamaluddin at the end of the film’s screening. The dialogue session involved discussions on film producing, the experiences and obstacles faced by Siti Kamaluddin and her university life. She also answered questions from the JIS students.
The cinema experience was an important and integral component of the programme designed to enhance the skills and proficiency of the JIS in the oral and written usage of Bahasa Melayu.
