IT IS the duty of all citizens in the country to ensure that none of their fellow beings are left out in enjoying a good standard of living and this attitude should be nurtured among members of all the communities.
This was stated by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong in his speech during the Hari Raya celebration of the Ministry of Home Affairs and departments under it at the Seri Kenangan Hall of the Community Hall Complex in Tutong District.
“This caring attitude should continue even after the month of Syawal so that those in need of assistance will be well taken care of, which will support efforts in achieving the National Vision 2035 of ensuring a high-quality life in Brunei to make it one of the top 10 nations in the world,” he added.
The minister also hoped that the mukim and village consultative councils will further cooperate and collaborate with agencies, associations and individuals to implement programmes that could help the needy not only in terms of financial assistance and food but also counselling and education.
The celebration also saw the presentation of Long Service Medal (PKL) and certificates to the officers and staff members of the ministry and departments under it who retired last year.
A total of 125 officers and staff members received PKL while 92 received certificates from the minister.
The event was aimed at enlivening the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, gathering members of the ministry and departments under it, as well as penghulu mukim and village heads from all four districts.
Performances by the Cultural Association of the Prisons Department added flavour to the celebration.
Also in attendance were the members of the Legislative Council from all districts, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, and heads of departments under the ministry.
