CONSUMERS can bring down plastic usage through simple steps and reduce pollution, said Faridah binti Haji Yahya from BruWILD.
She made this statement during the launch of World Environment Day 2018 exhibition co-organised by Annajat Complex in Beribi, BruWILD and Creative Brunei yesterday.
Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong officiated the event.
The exhibition, themed ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ held from 10am to 6pm, concludes today.
“The event aimed to promote awareness on the dangers of excessive plastic pollution on our health and our marine ecosystem,” added Faridah. “Possibilities for combatting the use of items made out of plastic such as straws, bags, cutlery, containers and cups were also explored.”
“We also promote alternatives to plastic straws, like using reusable materials including metal, bamboo, paper and reusable plastic straws,” she added. “Informative interactive booths on plastic products and simple steps to reduce pollution play a crucial role in educating ourselves to save marine life.”
Activities include mural-making, co-education booths, art exhibition, photo booth, reusable straw sale and plastic bottle drop-off. Local artists also showcased art relating to plastic pollution.
