Workshop offers insight into local film industry

TEACHING staff and students of Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) were given an insight on the recently released local movie, Hari Minggu Yang Ke-Empat (HMYK4) at a film workshop held yesterday at the college’s premises.

Produced by a local film production company, OAM Origin Management, HMYK4 focusses on love, family, forgiveness and second chances and it is a vision to make a start for a sustainable and healthy film industry in the country.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah binti Pengiran Sura Negara Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Bey Muntassir was present to lead the team from Origin Production. Workshop participants comprised of students from the college’s Arts, Information Technology and Multimedia Broadcasting.

Chief Executive Officer of KIGS Dr Azaharaini bin Haji Mohd Jamil; Head of Human Resources and Administration of KIGS Affendy bin Mohd Salleh; Principal of KIGS Sonny Jumpo; Head of Multimedia and Broadcasting of KIGS Haji Hasnul bin Hamdani; and lecturers from Information Technology, Faculty of Business and Faculty of Arts and Humanities were present.

The event started with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Haji Hasnul, followed by the introduction of HMYK4 cast and crew and showcase of behind-the-scene footages.

The event also saw a question-and-answer session about the process, obstacles and challenges of filmmaking in the country.

Students also engaged in quizzes, activity and a group photo session with the management.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah said that it is always interesting to meet students as they are the next generation who will continue to create national cinema content and understanding the importance of sharing and supporting Bruneian stories.

“We hope that through educating students and sharing dialogues with them, we are able to set a standard for Brunei-based films. This will ensure that our audiences will be ready to accept and support Brunei films and that we can continue to create more movies for Brunei,” she added.
