A LOCAL e-sports team, Goodfellas, won third place in the MSI Grand League tournament in Kuala Lumpur with a score of 16-12 after losing to Frostfire, a top Malaysian gaming team, recently.

The team comprised six players: Bryan Kang, Rolland Lim, Amirul Amin, Kamil Faizzin, Khairulrahimin and Nurfazlee Shafie.

The tournament, sponsored by MSI, an international laptop brand popular for gaming, had five open qualifiers for teams across Asia, and the top three teams from each qualifier advanced to the main event.

Team Manager Hawaii Yee said that the top 15 teams would play in a single knockout format to determine the winner. He added that this was the team’s second trip to Kuala Lumpur, after competing in the open qualifier and finishing in third place.

“We always hope to finish in the top three during tournaments to show other countries that Brunei has a team capable of performing at a higher level,” he added.

The team left for the Grand League last Friday with Netcom Computer House sponsoring part of their trip’s expenses.

“We are grateful to the management of Netcom Computer House for their support, and to our other sponsors Sigma Cyberspace and Blackace Cyber Café as well,” Hawaii said.
