SAYYIDINA Ali Secondary School of Kuala Belait (SMSA KB) hosted a Cultural Night recently to celebrate the success of the School Twinning Programme between the school and Temasek Junior College (TJC) of Singapore.
Head of Cluster 6 for Schools in the Belait District Asmah binti Tengah was the guest of honour. She was welcomed by SMSA KB Principal Pengiran Hajah Zeiniun binti Pengiran Mudin. Also present was TJC Vice-Principal Mark Chan, who accompanied the 12 exchange students to the Sultanate during the course of the programme.
Pengiran Hajah Zeiniun in her speech expressed hope that the visit had been productive for the TJC students and staff.
She said, “I also hope that our fellow students from TJC will take the opportunity to learn more about Brunei Darussalam.”
Her sentiments were shared by Mark Chan, who said TJC has always been enthusiastic about visits to the Sultanate since Brunei’s Ministry of Education first approached TJC with regard to the School Twinning Programme.
He said, “Before coming to Brunei, we didn’t know what to expect, but during our short time here it is evident that there are still so many aspects of Brunei that we have yet to learn. I hope that we can learn more while sharing the knowledge and culture of our two countries.”
The SMSA KB students later took to the stage to showcase traditional stories and skits followed by a dance presentation by the TJC students.
The event also featured a gulingtangan performance and an array of local culinary delights including Kuih and Ambuyat.
Upon arrival in Brunei on July 23 from Singapore, the TJC students took part in activities at SMSA KB including participating in a vocational class and learning how to make traditional kites.
