Malaysia emerge winners of sixth Global Veterans meet

MALAYSIA emerged champions of the 6th Global Veterans Football Tournament after defeating Brunei Darussalam 3-0 in the final at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

Malaysia was represented by Klang Star Veteran while host nation Brunei Darussalam was represented by Veteran Football Association Brunei Darussalam.

M Prabahar produced a man-of-the-match performance after netting a brace and racking up an assist with G Kalithas also on the score-sheet.

Prabahar’s heroics in the final were acknowledged as he was named Best Player while Iman Faisal of the Indian Football Team from Indonesia scooped the Top Scorer Award after bagging seven goals.

Meanwhile, Malai Samy Saravana Kumar of the Phoenix Veterans Football Club from Chennai, India won the Best Goalkeeper award.

The Brunei team saw familiar faces with former national players reuniting once more on the field.

Malaysia hosted the first edition of the Global Veteran Football Tournament in 2013 with India being crowned inaugural winners and this year Brunei was chosen as the host country.

The closing ceremony was held at the Stadium Restaurant and the guest of honour at the event was Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali.
