THE 13th Annual Brunei Darussalam Roundtable themed ‘Capital Markets, Finance and Investments: Global Trends and How Technology is Driving Growth’, organised by Asia Asset Management magazine with the support of the Brunei Darussalam Capital Market Association (BCMA), was held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club yesterday.

The guest of honour, Minister of Home Affairs and Deputy Chairman of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) Board of Directors Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, delivered the opening keynote address.

In his welcoming remarks, Chairman of the BCMA Haji Minorhadi bin Haji Mirhassan, said members of the association share the common objectives of BCMA which, among others, include promoting and enhancing financial and investment literacy and actively supporting the development of the domestic capital market.

“BCMA members are cognizant of the benefits and impact of technology in all aspects of our collective effort in this regard. Innovations brought forward by financial technology (FinTech) – digital ledgers and blockchain technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning – all are new technologies yet to be fully harnessed,” Haji Minorhadi said.

He also emphasised the need to keep up with these global developments and how best we can not only adapt, but be actually at the forefront of these technologies.

The event saw more than 140 participants from across Asia congregating to discuss the latest issues and trends affecting capital markets, finance, technology and global investments.

Among the key topics discussed were infrastructure and infrastructure financing, a key consideration for the ASEAN region, given the needs to boost the sector to support economic growth.
