Further boost to Brunei, Russia ties

COMMANDER of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad was in Vladivostok, Russia for the International Far Eastern Maritime Show (IFEMS) and Russian Navy Day from July 26-30, the invitation by Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation, Admiral Sergei Avakyants.

First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi and Admiral Sergei Avakyants held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines to discuss naval cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Russia.

The Russian side briefed the RBN Commander on the current state and development plans of the Russian Pacific Fleet.

The RBN Commander expressed gratitude to the Pacific Fleet Commander for the invitation and noted the growing naval ties. Both sides reiterated their mutual commitment to bolster naval relations and to further enhance interactions in areas of mutual interest through various bilateral and multilateral platforms.

First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi’s visit also included a tour of the latest Russian Pacific Fleet corvette ‘Sovershenniy,’ where he was received by its Commanding Officer, Captain Dmitry V Pashinuk.

He also took the opportunity to visit the S-56 Submarine Museum and the Russian Pacific Fleets’ historical museum.

First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi also attended Russia’s Navy Day in Amur Bay area in central Vladivostok, which showcased a naval parade with the participation of 40 warships, boats, submarines and support vessels, more than 20 units of military hardware of coastal defence troops and more than 1,500 Pacific Fleet military.

Within the framework of the visit, the Brunei delegation participated in the events of the IFEMS, which is the biggest shipbuilding industry event, bringing together over 1,500 participants from across Russia and abroad.

This is the first official visit by the RBN Commander to Russia which underscores the friendly relations between both countries and both navies.
