Japanese students get taste of local culture

YAYASAN Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Secondary School yesterday received a delegation of 14 students and two officers from Wakayama, Japan, as part of the Wakayama-Brunei Youth Cultural Students Exchange Programme 2018.

YSHHB Secondary School Principal Chong Li Chen welcomed the delegation. YSHHB School Chief Executive Officer Noorhaizamdin bin Haji Mosbi was also present.

The exchange programme, held annually at YSHHB Secondary School, looks to provide visitors a taste of Brunei’s culture and vice-versa, and at the same time promote cultural exchange between Brunei and Japan.

In her welcoming address, Principal Chong discussed the vision, mission and programmes of the school.

The event continued with a presentation by the Wakayama visitors; a souvenir presentation; cultural performances in the form of traditional dance, gulingtangan and hadrah by YSHHB students.

A presentation on Brunei traditional games and how to wear a dastar and sinjang were also arranged by the Department of Museums and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
