IT WAS an unexpected turn-out at the Nazmi Textile Mall ‘midnight sale’ on Saturday night as thousands thronged to the popular store to grab discounted fabrics and head scarves for as low as $1.
Long line of cars moved at snail’s pace along the roads leading to the Serusop branch of the textile mall with police personnel on motorcycles and in cars present to assist with traffic flow.
Proprietor Nazeer Ahmad Zakaria noted that 3,800 free Sahur dining coupons at the nearby restaurant had also been grabbed fast by customers even before the sale started at 10pm.
With the sale ending at 2am on Sunday morning, figures easily reached 10,000 customers for the night.
‘It was so unexpected and we had to limit the number of customers entering the textile mall. Customers had to wait outside before we could let them in as it was already packed. Customers came as far as from the Belait District.
“It has never been like this in previous years. Advertising in the newspapers, on radio station as spread of word on social media played their part in informing the public on the midnight sale,” Nazeer added.
“Due to overwhelming response, we plan to hold a similar midnight sale again on another day,” he added.
The midnight sale at the Serusop branch promises customers half prize fabrics and attractive discounts of up to 80% on items as well complimentary pre-dawn meals at the nearby restaurant.
