THE Indian Chamber of Commerce yesterday put a smile on the faces of 60 orphans and their families following a donation presentation ceremony as well as a treat to a delicious sungkai dinner at Anjung Saujana Restaurant.
Leading the charitable event was Nazeer Ahmad Zakaria, the President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce with other members.
Also in attendance to hand over donations to the orphans of Mukim Berakas ‘A’ were Nagma Mohamed Mallick, High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam as well as YB Haji Abdul Ahmad bin Hussain, a Legislative Council member.
Each of the orphans received a cash donation and textile during the ceremony that took place before sungkai.
In an interview Nazeer, who is the founder of Nazmi Textile in Brunei, said, “This is an annual event where we would like to give to the orphans, especially during the month of Ramadhan to help ease the burden of the orphans and their families. This is also one of the ways that the association would like to give back to the community.”
When asked about the role of the association, he explained, “The Indian Chamber of Commerce has always played a role in further boosting investment in Brunei. Currently, we can see that there are many Indian businessmen opening textile shops, supermarkets and convenience shops in the country.
“And we thank the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for providing us with the opportunity to invest in this peaceful and lovely country.”
There are around 100 registered members under the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
