MCYS donates hampers, daily necessities

FOUR underprivileged families received Hari Raya hampers and daily necessities yesterday, following a visit to Tutong District yesterday by officials and staff from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

The visit was led by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The recipients had been selected by the Community Development Department (JAPEM) out of several families in Kampong Bukit Beruang, Kampong Long Mayan, and Kampong Kebia.

The hampers and daily necessities were presented by Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin and Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, the Permanent Secretaries at the MCYS.

In an interview during the charity tour, the minister said that several new measures have been adopted by the National Council on Social Issues (MKIS) to tackle the issue of poverty, which includes helping the underprivileged community to find stable jobs and to become more financially independent.

The minister also said the donated gifts were meant to provide comfort and cheer for the four families, during the upcoming the Hari Raya season.
