THIRTY individuals comprising 26 senior military officers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), one senior officer from the Ministry of Defence (MinDef), two senior officers from the Prime Minister’s Office and one officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) are taking part in the 14th Executive Development Programme (EDP) for senior officials.
The programme, officially opened in a ceremony at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies of the MinDef yesterday, was organised by the MinDef, Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. It is held from September 3 to November 30.
In his opening remarks at the EDP launch, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Captain (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar highlighted that besides being an important component of the RBAF personnel’s professional development, the EDP is one of the cornerstones of Brunei’s military contributing towards achieving the Brunei Vision 2035 aspiration for a well-educated, highly skilled and accomplished people.
The permanent secretary urged the participants to capture this essence and aim towards delivering a positive impact on the country’s development, growth, security and stability.
Also delivering introductory remarks at the ceremony was Co-Director (Executive Education) of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore Associate Professor Francesco Mancini.
Designed and developed with a focus on public policy and management, and delivered by a faculty made up of highly experienced academicians and experts, the programme aims to equip the participants with the conceptual framework and cutting-edge tools needed for continual success in service. It will see participants visiting relevant ministries and agencies, and a number of invited local speakers delivering talks on public policy in practice.
Participants will also explore trends in managerial practice, gain new perspectives on public policy and management, and get the chance to enhance their core leadership skills.
They will also be exposed to a multi-disciplinary approach to analysing programmes and policies and its resulting outcomes and implications.
To date, 299 senior officers have undergone the EDP since its launch in 2004.
