THE Brunei History Centre in cooperation with the Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) recently organised a briefing for tour guides registered under the Tourism Development Department.
Head of the Exhibition and Services Division of the Brunei History Centre Pengiran Hajah Mahani binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad delivered the briefing at the Brunei History Centre in Jalan Stoney/Jalan James Pearce.
Senior Special Duties Officer Level I of the Tourism Development Department Kartini binti Haji Kabri led the delegation.
Following the briefing, the tour guides visited the galleries of the Brunei History Centre, and viewed demonstrations on assessing headstones, making of the genealogy, and the art of Jawi writing.
The briefing’s primary objective was to further enhance tour guides’ knowledge and skills in providing services to tourists, especially with regard to the history of Brunei.
It also aimed to provide the latest information on the products and services at the Brunei History Centre and encourage the guides to include the centre in their tour packages.
There are four galleries open to the public and tourists: The Golden Age of Brunei Gallery, The Borneo Manuscript Collection Gallery, Brunei’s Old History Gallery and The Golden Age Genealogy Gallery. A replica of the Sultan Bolkiah Tomb is also part of the attractions. The centre has a library, souvenir shop, bookstore and other services for the convenience of the public.
According to the Brunei History Centre, it received 17,984 tourists between 2012 and 2017. The focus of the centre is the history of Islam coming into Brunei Darussalam and the development of Islamic Syariah Law.
In 2017, 258,955 tourists came to Brunei Darussalam (air travel) – an 18.3 per cent increase compared to 2016.
