THE Bulletin spoke to this year’s Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan’s Scholar recipients on the sidelines of a signing ceremony held at the Multipurpose Hall of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.
Abdul Qayyum bin Haji Isa, 20, who will be continuing his Arabic Language studies at Al-Azhar University in Egypt, said that he looked forward to assisting in the development of Arabic courses in Brunei.
An active participant in Arabic Language workshops and programmes, Abdul Qayyum studied at Mahad Islam Brunei from 2012 to 2015, and continued the pre-university studies at the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School from 2016 to 2017.
Hajah Hafizah binti Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Nor, 24, said that her deep interest in construction led her to pursue a Master’s degree at the Royal Institute of British Architects of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, United Kingdom.
A recipient of the Sultan’s Scholar in 2013, Hajah Hafizah went on to graduate with Upper Second Class in Architecture from the University of Cambridge. “I hope to contribute towards the construction sector in Brunei,” she said.
Muhammad Nasruddin bin Haji Sulaiman, 22, meanwhile will be pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry Research at the Imperial College London after graduating with First Class (Hons) MChem in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
A Sultan’s Scholar recipient in 2014, he was presented with an incentive by Yayasan yesterday for his outstanding academic achievements.
