A SIGNING ceremony and recitation of Doa Selamat for three students awarded with the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan’s Scholar scholarship was held at the Multipurpose Hall of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday.
The ceremony was held after the award ceremony for the Sultan’s Scholar at the Istana Nurul Iman earlier in the same day.
Minister of Defence II and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of Yayasan; members of the Steering Committee of the Yayasan Sultan’s Scholar scholarship scheme; members of the Working Committee of the Yayasan Sultan’s Scholar scholarship scheme; parents and family members of the recipients; and Yayasan officers and staff.
This year, one student received the scholarship for the 2018/2019 academic session while two students received the scholarship to further their studies.
They are Abdul Qayyum bin Haji Isa, who will be pursuing his study in Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University, Egypt; Muhammad Nasruddin bin Haji Sulaiman, who will be pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of Chemistry Research at the Imperial College London, United Kingdom; and Hajah Hafizah binti Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Nor, who will be pursuing her Master’s degree in the field of Architecture at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) of the Architectural Association School of Architecture, United Kingdom.
The ceremony began with the mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Kampong Pintu Malim Mosque Affairs Officer Haji Mohd Azrol Alim bin Haji Zaini followed by a welcoming remark by Yayasan Managing Director Dato Paduka Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny.
The ceremony continued with the trio signing the agreement along with two guarantors comprising their parents or members of family, while on behalf of Yayasan the agreement was signed by the Yayasan Managing Director and Yayasan Assistant Managing Director Hajah Donnaliza binti Abdullah Puasa.
The guest of honour witnessed the signing ceremony.
The ceremony also saw presentation of incentives by Yayasan to two Sultan’s Scholar recipients who had achieved excellent academic result by scoring First Class.
The recipients were Muhammad Nasruddin bin Haji Sulaiman – First Class (Hons) MChem in Chemistry at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom and Rasyiqah Azimah binti Muhammad Nuraiziz – First Class (Hons) BSc Natural Sciences, from University College London, United Kingdom.
The ceremony continued with the recitation of Doa Selamat to pray for academic blessing for the Sultan’s Scholar recipients who will be embarking for their academic course later this month.
