Orphans, senior citizens receive donations

PENGARAH Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ismit bin Pengarah Mukim Haji Naim, Penghulu of Mukim Peramu, contributed financial assistance to around 510 orphans living in Kampong Ayer and 113 senior citizens from Kampong Peramu.

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Seri Wijaya Pengiran Haji Ahmad bin Pengiran Mohd Yusof, Senior Assistant Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara, in his capacity as guest of honour, handed over the donations to the recipients.

Also present was Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, members of the Legislative Council as well as Penghulu Mukim and Village Heads in the Brunei-Muara District.

The ceremony began with a recitation of Tahlil and Doa Tahlil led by Haji Bakar bin Daud, Imam of Kampong Peramu Religious Hall.

The donation is hoped to help those who are in need, especially orphans to prepare for Aidilfitri celebrations.

Nurkamarina binti Abdul Rahman, one of the recipients from Kampong Burong Pingai Ayer, said that the donation will be used for her children’s daily expenses.

Meanwhile, Sa’ayah binti Ensing, another recipient from Kampong Tamoi Tengah, said the donation that her children received is meaningful and will not only help them prepare for Hari Raya celebration but also cover her children’s school expenses.

Anita binti Sulaiman, from Kampong Setia, whose husband passed away in December 2014 due to colon cancer, said that her two sons mostly depend on donations given to them.

Both of her sons also receive monthly school assistance in the form of cash amounting $395 a month from the Community Development Department.
