OVER 30kg of rubbish were collected by 110 participants during a cleaning campaign at Tasek Lama Recreational Park yesterday.
Participants comprised Brunei youth participating in the 45th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) 2018.
Themed Be Kind, Clean Up and Be Fit, the community event aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle while protecting the environment by cleaning popular park hiking trails.
Participants were divided into three groups to clean different areas – waterfall and parking zone, short-trail atop the park and Bukit Sarang Helang .
Twenty-eight aspiring youth were selected to represent Brunei Darussalam for the SSEAYP programme this year.
The SSEAYP programme will begin in October. Each contingent is required to organise their own contribution to the community through several activities.
The annual SSEAYP programme, initiated in 1974, is sponsored by the Japanese Government and supported by ASEAN member countries. The programme provides opportunities to youth to interact with others on board the Nippon Maru and at different ports of call.
