THE Tutong Municipal Department and Tutong District Office – in collaboration with the Tutong District Tourism Promotion and Coordination Body – will organise the Tutong Food Festival from September 21-23 in the vicinity of the Pekan Tutong night market.
The operating hours will be from 2.30pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday, while the last day will see operations from 10am to 5pm.
This was revealed yesterday during a press conference at the Tutong District Office, attended by Tutong Municipal Board member cum carnival Chairman Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umarali, as well as officials from the Tutong Municipal Department and Tutong District Office.
“The carnival hopes to support the local community’s socio-economic activities in the district, strengthen solidary through a ‘whole of nation’ approach, and help enliven the commercial dynamism and attractiveness of the night market building and surrounding area,” Muhammad Amir said.
“The food carnival is expected to offer over 50 varieties of popular delicacies iconic to Tutong District, arranged buffet style. It will involve the participation of micro, small and medium sized businesses, and mukim and village consultative councils, youth and food entrepreneurs,” he added.
Activities lined up for the event include an eating contest, unique delicacies from ethnic groups from the district, pulut panggang workshop and a demonstration on rice cooking with firewood. Sideline attractions will include a cooking workshop, food product exhibition and a master chef competition.
The third day of the carnival will be held in conjunction with the Tutongku Ceria and Family Day. It will start at 5am with mass Subuh prayer and Tazkirah Subuh at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque, followed by various recreational activities.
“As soon as the Tutongku Ceria and Family Day event ends, the public will have the opportunity to take part in one of the carnival activities – the mass Ambuyat-making organised by the Women’s Bureaus from the Tutong District Mukim and village consultative councils. The activity looks to become the biggest-ever Ambuyat making and eating event.
Meanwhile, in support of No Plastic Day, visitors are urged to make use of recycle bag.
