HIS Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel, the youngest son of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday visited the Malay Technology Museum and the nearby Archaeological Park in Kota Batu, together with 122 Year 7 Humanities students from Jerudong International School (JIS).
The purpose of the educational visit was to introduce the Year 7 students to Geography and History field work, as well as the collection of data.
The students were accompanied by 10 teachers from the Humanities faculty led by Head of Humanities, David Griffiths and Head of Middle Years, Richard Bourbon, who is also a History teacher at JIS.
According to Griffiths, this is the first year of Senior School at JIS for the visiting students who previously attended Junior School.
“We are enormously privileged to have educational resources like the Malay Technology Museum and the Archaeological Park in Kota Batu on our doorstep, to enhance our students’ learning,” he said, adding that the visit would motivate the students to “discover, question and learn”.
“We hope it will start to create a passion for Geography and History too.”
While at the museum and Archaeological Park, the students completed a series of worksheets, answering questions on what they had learned and discovered at the locations.
Geography and History are compulsory and core subjects at JIS up until Year 9.
Students can opt to study both of these subjects for IGCSE, and also as part of the A-Level or IB Diploma courses.
