DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean admitted he could only hail their opponents for their brilliance and that he should be more reasonable with his team’s defence if they concede to a first-rate goal.
Kean told the media that they could only give credit to the opponents if they score a goal which resembles Dimitri Payet’s effort in the top corner or Gareth Bale’s stunning free-kick.
However, Kean insisted they need to stamp out on poorly conceded goals which have been a recurring theme this season which have led to a number of losses.
The ‘Gegar Gegar’ men will be looking to revive their season after showing ‘dramatic improvements’ in a crucial tie against basement dwellers Garena Young Lions in the S League at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore tonight.
The reigning S League holders have leaked nine goals in the last two games but Kean believed they did not deserve to lose against Tampines Rovers in their last match.
Speaking after their training session on Friday, Kean said that his team did not crumble and fought back before Jermaine Pennant found the winner in a 4-3 thriller last week.
Tampines new coach Akbar Nawas has deployed two strikers with Pennant playing behind in the DPMM FC victory.
Kean also urged his side to be able to play without the ball as well as with the ball adding that they have missed the duo of former players Boris Raspudic and Joe Gamble who provided the required attributes.
Meanwhile, Garena Young Lions ended their 10-match losing sequence with only a defeat in the last four games with Tampines causing substantial damage in a 6-1 win.
Young Lions have been a breath of fresh air since they beat Warriors last month and forced Philippines champions Ceres La Salle into extra time in the Singapore Cup.
The Singapore development squad have also kept Hougang United and Home United at bay but now face DPMM FC looking to get their season back on track.
With DPMM FC bracing for a two-legged affair with Ceres La Salle on June 30 and July 3, the Brunei-based outfit are running out of games to ensure they carry some form. Kean’s men have also conceded the same number of goals as they did the whole of last season.
