THE Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Hospital in Temburong District yesterday marked its 31st anniversary with several activities near the Belalong Community Hall in Pekan Bangar.
The celebration was attended by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, who joined in a mass aerobics session, walkathon and clean-up activity, along with hundreds of local residents, district officials and hospital staff members.
A health exhibition and free health checks were held throughout the event, in addition to a 3.1km cycling and workout challenges to raise awareness on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Situated on 2.43 hectares of land, the Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Hospital was launched on September 3, 1987, and currently offers 30 health services with 50 patient beds in its wards, including a renal dialysis centre.
The hospital has 172 medical officers and staff in various professional disciplines, and also offers scheduled specialist clinical care with the assistance of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
The first hospital in the Temburong District was opened in 1935, with a small and limited facility.
Decades later, its services have evolved along with larger and modern facilities, in line with the developments in the district.
Also present were Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Acting Temburong District Officer Khairul Shahrul bin Haji Duahim and the Senior Administrator at the Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Hospital Abdul Mu’iz bin Haji Ibrahim.
