THE Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Department of Scientific Services has achieved another milestone by acquiring the ISO/IEC 17025 certification for its two laboratories in Madaras and Serasa, from the Singapore Accreditation Council-Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAC-SINGLAS).
A presentation ceremony was held at the Department of Scientific Services building in Jalan Menteri Besar yesterday in acknowledgement of its success in achieving the accreditation.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Jaafar was the guest of honour.
Permanent Secretary at the MoH Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman and deputy permanent secretaries were also present.
ISO/IEC 17025 is the global quality standard for laboratories which specifically perform testing and calibration tasks.
The Acting Director of the Department of Scientific Services Hajah Rahimah binti Haji Hanafi said, “Judging by the importance of research labs for pharmaceutical products, cosmetics and food products in the provision of support services for public health, enforcement officers and food retailers, it is paramount for these services to be consolidated to acquire the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
“This success has lifted the spirits of our staff, inspiring more confidence, satisfaction and a sense of achievement among them.”
The ceremony was also attended by officials from the MoH; the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood; the Department of Fisheries; the Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department; the Halal Industry Development Division at the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry; the Treasury Department; and DARe (Darussalam Enterprise).
