THE Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) held its third National Weather Briefing of the year yesterday morning, following the previous one conducted in July.
Yesterday’s briefing, held at the auditorium of the Information Department, was attended by 103 people comprising participants from government and private sector agencies as well as members of the public.
The briefing included the Brunei Darussalam Weather, Climate and Seasonal Outlook for the Inter-Monsoon Season (October, November and December) presented by BDMD Meteorologist Harnina binti Morani.
Also featured was a special session on the technology behind forecasting facilitated by BDMD Meteorologist Marzeti binti Haji Mahadi. Other activities included a promotion and sale of BDMD’s coffee-table book Nubivagant with Wondrous Scenes of The Abode of Peace, as well as a promotion of the department’s Brunei WX mobile app which provides users with weather forecasts for Brunei Darussalam and weather reports from several local areas throughout the country.
The National Weather Briefing is one of the BDMD’s and Ministry of Communications’ initiatives to engage with different user groups such as safety and first responders, economy and industry groups, construction firms, insurance companies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as members of the mass media.
The briefing has seen a great turnout due to the department opening it up for public participation for the very first time this year.
The briefing aims to provide opportunity for existing and new users of weather and climate information to interact directly with the BDMD and communicate their respective needs for information and services.
