PEHIN Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA), yesterday lauded the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam for contributing a total of $55,789 – the biggest sum ever donated to DANA by a local Chinese association.
The contributions come from companies and private individuals under the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam, where Jackson Ting, the President of Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam and the Managing Director of D’Sunlit, donated $5,000 – the highest donation made by a member of the association.
The second highest donor was Dr Lau Sie Chuong of Aifa Sdn Bhd, the association’s deputy president, who contributed $3,500.
Meanwhile, Dato Sei Lau Kung Ching, from Goldmyne Sdn Bhd, and Ji Dao Ge Chinese Charitable each donated $3,000.
St John’s School presented a donation of $1,455.93, while the Indonesian Community Association in Brunei donated $1,000 to the fund.
Altogether, a total of $58,244.93 was donated to the fund.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the donors from the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam. This is the second time that the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam has contributed to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans. We also welcome other associations who would like to donate to the fund,” said Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi.
“The funds,” he added, “will be utilised for various purposes such as promoting the welfare of orphaned children.”
“We also hope to find a long-term solution to enable these orphaned children to stand on their own and be independent.”
Also present at the handover ceremony, held at the main hall of new building of the Curriculum Development Department at the Ministry of Education, was Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, the Chief Executive Officer of the fund, together with other officials.
