Outgoing envoy recalls good memories of Brunei

OUTGOING High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam Major General (Rtd) Tariq Rashid Khan yesterday recalled of good memories of Brunei.

“My experience in Brunei has been very nostalgic and wonderful. I am heading back to Pakistan with many good memories. I found Brunei to be very beautiful and I developed a very good friendship with the local society and the Diplomatic Corps.”

He made these comments at a reception hosted by members of the Diplomatic Corps to bid him farewell at The Empire Hotel & Country Club.

He added, “The Diplomatic Corps is a small community and we met frequently. You remain very close to my heart.”

Recalling some of his achievements, he said, “The Pakistan Army Polo Team visited Brunei and participated in His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 72nd Birthday Polo Tournament for the first time. The Pakistan calligraphy painting exhibition was hosted in the country twice.”

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Brunei Darussalam Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel bin Rashed bin Hashel Al-Maskari, congratulating the envoy on his successful tenure said, “We would like to congratulate you for the advancements in Brunei- Pakistan bilateral relations over the past two years. We happily observed that Brunei and Pakistan ties were strengthened through high level bilateral visits, people to people contacts and cultural exchanges such as the ‘Islamic Calligraphy, Painting and Art Exhibitions’ which took place in conjunction with Pakistan’s National Day celebrations such as ‘Beautiful Pakistan Exhibition’ held in 2017 and 2018.”

“We also followed with great interest the participation of the Pakistan Army Polo Team in ‘His Majesty’s Birthday Polo Tournament’ and the first ‘Pakistan High Commissioner’s Polo Cup’,” he said. The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps presented the outgoing envoy with a farewell gift on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps.

Major General (Rtd) Tariq Rashid Khan presented his Letter of Credence to His Majesty on October 25, 2016.
